“Will He Find Faith?
Luke 18: 8
As I searched the scriptures for means of helping me to help myself, and “Our Comfort Zone” readers - Luke 18: 8b
“Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on earth;” caught my attention, and reminded me of a sermon I preached back in 1968: “Will He Find Faith?” So I looked up my notes. There it was; thoughts to help me, and I believe “Our Comfort Zone” readers as well.
The question implies a strong NO; there will be little faith - that is, faith in the whole body of revealed truth. Jesus found little faith among his own disciples, for when the two Mary’s told them what they had witnessed:
“their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed not” (Lk.24:11).
After James was killed
(Acts 12: 1-15) Herod, because it pleased the Jews, after Easter, the Passover, took Peter and turned him over to the crowd. But while Peter was in prison, sleeping between two soldiers, bound with chains, guards on all doors; “prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.” God heard those prayers and sent an angel, and they walked out of that prison.
Peter left that prison and went to a prayer meeting, and when he knocked on the door, he had to wait to get in, because of all the excitement of the young maid. When she told those assembled “
how Peter stood at the door,” they said, “Thou art mad ... It must be his angel.” They should have been expecting a divine visitation, yet, when it came, they were found unbelieving and astonished.
In answer to His question
[V.8], we hear men today say: “Yes, Master, we have beautiful creeds, you will find great theologies, you will find religion in fine art, and mighty churches. When you come you will find power, power to control the world, put men on the moon, abolish poverty and, control the world, abolish poverty, and end war.
Then Jesus will reply; “I am not asking this; “will I find faith on earth?’ Will I find men and women walking in the faith, men and women who will appreciate spiritual values.
The world has the idea, material values are eternal. We seek happiness through process of addition, and give no attention to what Jesus said;
“.. for a man’s life consistent not in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Will He find faith in your life? That, that you do, is it launched under the inspiration of Jesus? Jesus said, “When the Son of Man returns will He find faith on the earth?” Will we have the faith to believe that God’s love is greater than we ever imagined, and that He is bigger than we ever thought possible? Will we believe that “with men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible?” Faith is the key “and without faith, it is impossible to please Him.” (Heb. 11:6)
