"GOD HAS SOMETHING BETTER PLANNED FOR
US"
Acts 7: 36
{Part one of three}
April 15, I was helping with the
funeral of a friend, whose family had received lots of flowers. As we were
removing the flowers from the truck at the grave site, a young man who works
for the cemetery asked how old she was. I told him her age, and he said:
"You Are A Old Man Also; Aren't You?" I told him I am 78,
and his reaction was, "wow - and how long have you been married?"
I told him my wife has put up with me for 57 years. He responded -
"That's a long time." I confess, I enjoyed talking with this young
man. I pray that this visit will be a means of helping him; and this
"Comfort Zone" will give all of us something to think about as we reach the
golden years.
I have thought of our conversation the
last week, and my how God has blessed our lives. And I have also reached
the conclusion that "God Has Something Better
Planned For Us." Let me remind you
that “Moses
led them {the children of
Israel} out of Egypt, and did wonders and miraculous
signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for Forty Years in the Desert.”
Acts 7:36 NIV . The final forty years of
Moses life, from 80 to 120 could be considered as years of Triumph when he
led the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt.
We know that Moses wasn't the only
person to do his best work in his old age. How many grandma Moses do you
know today. It has been said that age is nothing more than a state of mind -
it's ok to have wrinkles on your skin - just don't let your heart get
wrinkled! Seriously, let's take a look at Moses final forty years, and some
of the lessons we can learn from his life.
We must keep in mind that
GOD DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK ACCORDING TO OUR WAY OF THINKING,
but ".. we know that all
things work together for good to them that love God, to them who
are called according to his purpose"
(Ro.8:28). Has there been a time in your life, like Moses, that you were
just too cocky and need to be humbled. It may appear to us that God made
things extra hard for Moses when He hardens Pharaoh's heart, and would not let
the people go (Ex.5:2). Why would God do that?
Things got worse. It is often said that things will get worse before they
get better. For Moses, and the children of Israel, things did get worse.
It's like the nine-year old little boy
whose sister was just starting to school. On the first day of school at the
breakfast table he offered her some advice. "Don't
ever learn to spell 'cat' " he warned, "once you do that, all they'll do is
just keep giving you harder and harder words to spell!"
My advice is - "Keep on keeping on - remain faithful and don't ever turn
back." Remember, God has promised us His resources, as He did Moses.
Move out of "Your Comfort Zone" - acknowledge God in all of your ways, and
He will direct your paths.
