"STORM CLOUDS BUILDING"
Bro. Carl Hyche and I were fishing below Lay Dam on the Coosa River several years back, and we were catching fish. The horn sounded, signifying that a lock was about to open, allowing a surge of water that could capsize our boat. Carl immediately tried to pull the anchor, and it would not budge. I reached for the knife, and cut the rope, just as the rushing water was about to sink the boat. The problem was we tried to long to pull the anchor before we cut the rope. We survived, but we also learned a lesson. Don't delay when a storm is brewing.
Another type of storm is coming—a day of judgment. It may seem far off, and you don't feel you have to hurry to prepare. You may be in good health and in the prime of life. But listen, the storm may come upon you unexpectedly.
I read just recently the true story about a man by the name of Charles Plumb, and I want to borrow a paragraph from the story: "Charles Plumb was sitting in a restaurant when a man came up to him and said, "You're Plumb. You flew jet fighters in Vietnam. You were on the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!" "How in the world did you know all that?" asked Plumb. The man, who had been on the same ship, replied, "I packed your parachute." Then he added, "I guess it worked." "Indeed it did," said Plumb."
There is more to this story, but I have a question to ask of you, "Who packed your parachute? Also, who's parachute are you packing? Or, are you relaxing in "Your Comfort Zone." The author of Hebrews warned, "It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment." (9:27).
Heed God's warning is true wisdom, seek shelter in Jesus. Carl and I both stopped "fishing" and started "packing parachutes" for our co-workers at TCI; that they might seek safety before it was too late. Storm Clouds are Building, don't pull on the rope too long - cut your ties to the things of the world. Start packing parachutes for lost family members and friends.
