ARE  WE  LOSING  OR  WINNING?”

I well remember my first “Memorial Day” away  from home;  lots of  miles and  water  between me and  my family.  I pray our troops today will remember  this day as a day:  “We  are winning the battle.”  I want to share this article, I don’t know who wrote,  but it sure did speak to me.  I can see a number of troopers asking this question:

”General, you can tell me something.” “I will if I can,” said the general.  “What is it?”  And this is what the soldier said:
“Sir, I want to know how the rest of this  war  is  going.  Is what   we are  doing  here  really   helping  or will  it  be    lost because the war is being lost?  In the overall picture, General, Are we losing or winning?”

I think I can see the reasoning of the soldier.  He was prepared to make any sacrifice if it would mean something to the final outcome.  He wanted to know if the job was being done and if they were coming out on the right side.

The general said to him.  “Son, this hill is the pivot of our whole line. This is why they attack it so fiercely and so continuously.  As long as we hold this hill, our line will remain steady;  because you are holding it, we have been able to proceed with  mounting offensive to drive the enemy out of this line.  One of these days soon, we shall begin the offensive;  meanwhile, you must hold this hill.”

“Thank you, General,”  said the young soldier,  picking up his rifle,  “I reckon I’ll get back to holding it.”

I hope and pray the wife and two children I saw on TV News yesterday,  seated on the ground, around the marker of the husband and daddy,  a trooper who died in battle five years ago;  talking to him on each of the last five Memorial day’s;  will know he helped with the victory over the enemy.

“Are We Losing Or Winning”  our battle against Satan.  Fight the fight of faith,  endure,  till we are called home to glory.
