“THE VERY PURPOSE OF LIFE”
I heard on the news last week, a young lady received twelve million dollars for a one night performance in some night club. This sounds extravagant - right? Well, read on.
Paul and Silas sang one night in a prison. Most likely their song was not rendered with the skill or harmony of this young lady, but it’s tenderness touched the heart of the keeper of the prison and echoed through the angel-crowded streets of heaven; and the listening King of kings rewarded those who sang with crowns of glory that will gleam in beauty throughout eternal ages.
Compassion was the heart beat of our Savior's ministry. “But when He saw the multitude, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.” Heaven is geared to redemption; and no man who ever had a glimpse of hell would ever want a fellow human being to go there.
Paul and Silas were accused of bringing trouble to Philippi; “These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city ... And the multitude rose up against them . . . They were beaten . . . Cast in into prison.” Even though Paul and Silas had been humiliated and beaten, the jailor added to their suffering by thrusting them into the inner prison . . Putting their feet in stocks. Then the jailer went to bed and went to sleep.
But “He giveth songs in the night” (Ps. 42:8 & 77:6) and, Paul and Silas praised God instead of complaining. What a testimony this meeting was! At midnight God went to work and shook the prison so that all the prisoners were released. Our very purpose in life is to show forth the praises of God. God clothes His people with “the garment of praise”(Isa. 61:3).
LISTEN TO WHAT PETER SAYS (1Pet. 2:9). “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood … a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praise of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:” We should praise God for what he has done. “Praise Him for His mighty acts: .. His greatness” (Ps.150:2).
He has Made us: “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: (Ps, 139: 14)
He has delivered us: When Israel’s children learned that God had heard their cry and had sent a deliverer (Moses), they “bowed their heads and worshiped”(Ex. 4:31).
He hath given us His truth … He hath answered our prayers. “In God I will praise his word” (Ps.138:2). So, “Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord” (Ps. 150: 6)
INTERCESSION IS THE WAY THAT LEADS TO THE WINNING OF SOULS. No church can prosper without it. No Christian can grow without it. You begin to care for a man spiritually when you begin to pray for him. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord for His goodness and mercy.
