"WHEN GOD RANG MY DOORBELL"
I read about a family that was about to conclude their
devotions at the breakfast table with a prayer when the doorbell rang. The
mother said to her son; "Roland, you answer it, we will wait on you."
Roland found one of his friends at the door, and this is what the family
heard.
"Are you coming out to play?" asked Dick.
"Well, not right now because we are having worship,"
explained Roland. "Worship, what's that?" asked Dick. For a
second there seemed to be some hesitation before Roland spoke; then with real
confidence: "Oh, that's talking to God. My daddy knows how to do it."
Jesus is identified by John the revelator as the One
knocking at the door of our hearts. "Behold, I
stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I
will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me"[Rev.
3:20]. This passage on God's knock, God ringing
my doorbell has a strange effect upon me. How does it effect you?
First of all "It thrills me." It thrills
me, because it brings me "Good News." That ring tells me I have a Divine
visitor, and He knows where I live. His knocking is proof that He is come, and
it implies His willingness to come in. This is great because it tells me/you
about Jesus. It Thrills me because He is so compassionate,
He is concerned about me/you; He rings my door bell and waits and listen for
my/our response.
Now think about this; we have the power to either open or
close that door. This is an awesome responsibility. If I/you fail to answer
that knock or the doorbell, will He ever come back?
Friends, "This frightens me." It frightens me because there
are many voices seeking my/your attention; will they drown out the voice of
God? Will I/you turn a deaf ear to God's voice? Why should This
Frighten me/you? Because I/we have that awesome responsibility of
choice, of decision, of accepting or rejecting the Savior.
It thrills me, It frightens me, and it
Encourages me, to know He offers to come into my life - He offers to
sit at my/your table, to sup with me/you, and to dwell with us. Yes, He has
knocked many times since. How many times has He rang your
door bell? How many time have you turned deaf ears to His
knocking? He wants to set His people free - move out of "Your Comfort Zone."
Friends, the only time we have belongs to our Lord Jesus.
"Dear Lord, help me to learn not to keep running ahead of
You, Teach me to turn everything over to You, claiming Your promises,
praising Your name, and waiting for Your direction and Your timing. My life
could be less stressful, couldn't it, Lord, and much more meaningful if only
I'd learn; learn the knock/ringing of my door bell is not to hurt me, but to
give me the abundant life.
Help me, Father, to have ears to hear the knocking on
my hearts door, and faith to take the step to answer." "Amen!"
