"Mind Your Own Business"
Some forty years ago my father-in-law, from his
front porch, saw Mickey Lee, a young lad of about 8 years of age, walking
down the center of the road, and he called out to him: "Mickey, get out
of the road, a car may hit you." Mickey replied: "You mind your
business and I will mind mine."
The Context for Psalms 126: "A farmer may weep
due to the drudgery of his labor, but after the ground has been tilled, the
seed planted and the harvest gathered, the same farmer returns from the same
field rejoicing in the fruit he has received. I want to remind you of
something Jesus said in John 4: 35: "...
Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white
already unto harvest." He strongly suggests, His
people, are the farmer who are to plant, tend and reap the harvest here.
God's call to you and me is that we be active in spreading His message to a
world that is perishing - you and I are to be witnesses; get out of
"Our Comfort Zone", Mind Our Business" to witness to the saving
power of Christ Jesus.
It is a business that challenges us - it
demands our concern - claims our personal effort, and pays tremendous
dividends. We need to mind our business because man's need today are the same
as yesterday. Man may bath in a tile tub instead of the creek, and drive a
fast car instead of an ox cart, but the sin stain is the same.
We need to mind our business as soul winners
because, that which causes joy in heaven {Lk.
15:7} must be the most worth while activity on
this old earth.
Dr. Billy Graham, in the Decision Paper said:
"Our nation has known four great crises, and the fourth crises is the present
moment. He states that honesty has been thrown out the window - we are in one
mad whirl of amusement and pleasure" [Quote
in part]. Now, if we are to be really honest with ourselves, we will
have to admit that our witness is often lacking in some of its necessary
elements.
That is what Psalms 126 is all about; the Lord
addresses some of the things we lack and offers His promise to those who go
forth in His Name, spreading His Gospel His way.
A young couple paused for a few minutes in the
Lobby of their hotel - he had a couple of phone calls to make. The wife took
a comfortable chair to wait. When her husband returned he found his wife
wiping tears from her eyes. "What's the matter honey," he asked.
"A man came up to me after you left, and began to ask me about my
salvation." Angrily he replied: "Why didn't you tell him to mind
his own business." The wife replied: "Honey, if you had heard him
you would have thought that it was his business."
I ask you, "How many times have you shared
your testimony with a lost person since you have been saved?" If the Lord has
been dealing with you about being a better witness and a better partner in His
great Commission work, then I challenge you to come before Him just now,
acknowledge: "Lord, Your Business is my business, and I will be about my
Fathers business."
