One Person Can Make A Difference
Micah 6: 8
The story has been told about a man who was caught and taken to court because he had stolen a loaf of bread. When the judge investigated, he found out that the man had no job, and his family was hungry. He had tried unsuccessfully to get work and finally, to feed his family, he had stolen a loaf of bread. Although recognizing the extenuating circumstances, the judge said, "I'm sorry, but the law can make no exceptions. You stole the bread, and therefore I have to punish you. I order you to pay a fine of ten dollars."
And then the judge continued, "But I want to pay your fine myself." He reached into his pocket, pulled out a ten-dollar bill, and handed it to the man.
As soon as the man took the money, the judge said, "Now I also want to cancel the fine and remit the sentence to time served." That is, the man could keep the money and go free. "Furthermore, I am going to instruct the bailiff to pass around a hat to everyone in this courtroom, and I am fining everyone in this courtroom fifty cents for living in a city where a man has to steal in order to have bread to eat."
The money was collected and given to the defendant. I love that story, because it's a perfect example of justice being meted out in full and paid in full, while at the very same time, mercy and grace were also enacted in full.
Micah speaks to every man; “What does the Lord require of you?” Beloved, this is a question we must answer as we seek out the meaning of life, because we live in God’s world. It is God who established the conditions of the good life. To find life’s meaning, we must find what God wants of us. Micah has a word to speak concerning the meaning of man’s life, and it is found here in V. 8:
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
You and I are called to act in the same manner as that Judge. We're called to not just DO JUSTLY and LOVE MERCY but to LOVE KINDNESS, and to WALK HUMBLY WITH THY GOD, because we have experienced ALL through the outstretched hands of Jesus on the Cross.
I believe anyone can understand this, and what God wants of us. “To do justice” is to do what as a Christian should be doing. “Love mercy.” There are multitude of people that are having a hard fight; and we should give them love - love in action. David said (Ps. 41:10 “Blessed is he that considereth the poor.” ”And to walk humbly with thy God.” How? By exalting the divine perfections, and ever glorying in God. God must have undivided glory. How? By reverence and praise; we must lift up the Lord God. This must be our walk. One person can make a difference. What is the Gospel according to you?

PRAYER Rx --- July 29
Dear Lord, Help us to realize that Christians everywhere are in a spiritual battle, and need to recognize the enemy -- those who ridicule and demean You, trying to blot out Your influence. Help me to realize also that "greater is He (God) who is within me, than he (Satan) who is in the world."* ... If I walk in Your will, then You will never desert me, for I can count on You. You will provide strength and courage and guidance, for You are true to Your Word. ... The question is, can You count on me? Oh Lord, I hope so, for I need You, and You need your people to be faithful. ... Help me to keep my connection for I am often weak, and I am helpless without You.
In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
