“OUR LIFE’S JOURNEY”
“LORD, WE KNOW NOT WHERE THOU GOEST..”
St. John 14: 5-6
For the last two months - well, I have had more in my bucket than I could carry, and carry it right. I appreciate all your prayers; and health wise, I feel much better, and I did not have a heart attack. God works in mysterious ways, and His ways are not always the way we choose, but for sure He knows best. So with this said, I believe this is the proper time for me to share some thoughts about our “Life’s Journey.”
I shared these thoughts last Sunday (Aug.7) with the people at the Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church: “Peter tells us, that as believers, we are strangers and pilgrims.” The word stranger has the idea of a person who lives for an extended time in a land that is not his/her own. He/she is an exile who lives in a foreign land. The word pilgrim has a meaning that is more temporary than the other. From the religious point – one who embarks on a quest for something conceived as sacred.” Yes, a lot more can be said about this, but this is a introduction to this writing of (part 1 of two – may be three) “Our Comfort Zone.”
We all must realize that this life here is a journey; and some of the days are good and some are bad. We enjoy it when we have smooth sailing, but we also run into hurricanes and tornadoes, and we wonder if our ship can survive. Some of you have faced terrible storms in your life, or a family member; some of you are facing storm at the present time. My dear friends, stay with the ship – like Paul said [Acts 27:31]: “..Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.” Keep the faith beloved.
The Apostle Thomas said to Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus gave him an amazing answer. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:5-6). Let’s take a close look at ourselves; how Jesus can be the way for our life-journey. Here are some facts to help us think about our faith in Jesus the Messiah.
When we say “He Is The Way..” – what are we saying? We are talking about the end of our life journey – we are talking about our final destination. Question; Where do we hope to arrive? Some people spend their life drifting here and there with no destination in mind. But we have heard Jesus’ words “I go to prepare a place for you.” And the city that is already prepared for us has “many dwelling places” (John 14:2). It is pictured for us in the Book of Revelation as a city with trees and a life-giving river running through the middle of it (Revelation 21:22-26). Each of us will have just the right home where we can both be private and go out to meet people of all nations. And we know that the moment we die we will have resurrection bodies that are freed to enjoy God’s kind of love.
Another question. Are you sure of your destination? I heard a lady give her testimony last Sunday (8-7-05) about being sure she has a home in heaven – which she does now. This is what this “Life’s Journey” is all about – preparing for eternal life.
