Part One: "REMEMBER WHAT YOU KNOW"
                 2 Peter 1: 12-15

It is amazing how we can remember some things as we make our pilgrimage through this life; like: "Let's Remember Pearl Harbor, as we go to meet the foe, Let's remember Pearl Harbor, as we did the Alamo."  I also remember all the students at Greenwood School were assembled on Monday morning, December 8, 1941 to hear, the then President Roosevelt's speech,  to declare war on our foes. I also remember August, 1945, the United States exploded an atomic bomb over Hiroshima;  that brought about the end of WW 2.  "Remember What You Know;"  everything was rationed those years - everything.

I also remember May 7, 1950, Kitty and I were saved and united with the Hopewell Church. I also remember the last Sunday in February, 1962, Hopewell Church, I acknowledged the call to the ministry.  I also remember October 29, 1967;  I was ordained. I also remember my "Burning Bush" experience in 1983.   "Remember What You Know." I remember many events - all the churches I supplied and pastored.

I also have to confess there are many thing that I don't have such a clear memory of. And this reminds me of a mother who asked her preacher son about his sermons of the past Sunday; and he said: "I tried a quiz and they {congregation} couldn’t remember anything from what I had spoken about in the last two sermons! To which the mother replied "Well, you can’t remember what you ate for dinner only last Wednesday, but that’s not too say that it didn’t do you any good!’ True? True!

It is said, the golden rule is when you see a verse that starts with"Wherefore / Therefore," ask what it is 'there for?' I believe that Peter is trying to remind them { and us} of eternal consequences of this truth.  We see the importance of putting into pratice the truth of God.  So Peter is willing to remind them, and again, and again.

Peter is 'Confident of Christ's Return.' And Peter states that this letter is designed to stir up the minds of the readers "by way of remembrance."  In light of this coming day of the Lord, Peter exhorts his readers to live lives of holiness, steadfastness, and growth. "Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look/wait for such things, be diligent/careful that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless {3:14}.

Why is it, do you think, that we need this constant reinforcement and reminding of the truth? Why? "Because we have leaks!"  When we may know the truth, simply put, we also need to be reminded of this truth, it is critical.  Peter says that it is still important to be reminded of that which you already know. It wasn't a new truth Peter was bring to them. He knew, even if some of us don't, that there is nothing wrong with the gospel.  We just need to let it take grip on our hearts.

I say this because many in our age try to change the truth of the gospel in an effort to make it more appealing to the masses.  It is said, "If it's true, it's not new.  And if it's new, it is not true." God would say, "... where the good way is, walk in it, and find rest for your souls." Do you need a stir up? Then move out of "Your Comfort Zone," and I  ".. think it proper, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder;" "Remember What You Know;" walk in the way as He is the way, the truth and light.
