Proverbs 8
I know that some may not agree with me, but I believe we have in Proverbs
Prophetic writings which really relate to the Messiah. The language can only
be understood of God’s Son, Jesus. And before the foundation of the
universe, rejoiced in the salvation of sinful man. We have in Proverbs 8: 10:
“Receive my instructions, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice
gold.”
It has been said: “These years in which we live are long on knowledge and
short on wisdom.” Yes, it takes a lot of knowledge to put a man on the moon,
and whether this is wise is debatable. But the lack of wisdom is evident in
communities – homes and individual lives. “I wisdom dwell with prudence ”
[V. 12]. In other words, “I practice what I preach.” “Blessed is the man
that hearken unto me … But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul:
all they that hate me love death.” [VV. 34 & 36] These are strong words – right?
Let it be know the man who shuts his ears when God speaks robs himself of
those things which make his heart rich: of spiritual peace – of sacred joy – of
heavenly hope – faith – holy love – of Divine comfort, and the best forms of
usefulness. Wealth cannot buy happiness; it may purchase some excitement,
but it will not secure contentment. There is only self-destruction.
Wisdom cries out: “Hearken unto me … Hear instruction … be wise.” Seek the
wisdom that is spoken of as the fear of the Lord, and I use fear in the
sense as reverence for the good and high, not for the being afraid. There
is the need for man to put God’s business above all other business.
There is a legend that at the entrance to Heaven, two questions will be asked
of everyone who comes seeking admittance. The first question is this:
"Did you come alone?" And if--tragically--your answer is "Yes," the second
question follows. "How could you?" I don't want any church or Christian
to be mistaken for a mannequin, do you? The answer to avoid being a
mannequin is really quite easy: a commitment to fellowship, a commitment
to prayer, a commitment to outreach, and a commitment to sharing Jesus
Christ. And remember: What is the longest word in the English language?
Smiles. There's a "mile" between the first and last letters! With smiles
and with joy may we bring life to our Christian faith? “Behold, I s tand at
the door and knock” [Rev. 3:20]. Opportunity is knocking at your door. Will
you open the door of your heart and let the Lord Jesus in?

Dear Lord, help me to remember that even in the depths of my despair,
You are there. Help me to remember to rejoice and praise You even then,
believing that there is a purpose in everything that happens. Give me
the strength to turn my life over completely to You and to mean it, not
dictating answers to my prayers, but being willing to listen and to
sincerely put You in charge of my life. Give me courage to speak honestly
in love, not shying away from reality, or lacking the courage to face the
painful. Help me to know that You are my only real security and that
You will not fail me. Guide me I n the paths that I should walk, both for
Your sake and for mine. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
