“LOOK IN THE MIRROR”

   ROMANS 15: 13

I cannot say when I look in the mirror that I come to the same conclusion of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath , who wrote a book titled “I can’t Wait Until Tomorrow … Cause I Get Better Looking Ever Day.” But I can say it can help us see how we as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ should view ourselves in the lifelong process of becoming like Him. Scriptures tells us that to become more like Christ, we need to keep getting better every day. Move out of our “Comfort Zone.”

Take a close look at Romans 15:13; now I ask you, does the God of hope fill you with joy and peace – are you abounding in hope?  As you look in the mirror today,  do you see  joy and peace in your face?  With all the stress our nation is under, and I want expound on this, but  we sure need the “God of hope to fill us with joy and peace … through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

If you had 30 seconds to live, how would you summarize the things that are most important to you?  Would you like what you would see in the mirror? Two very important questions, yes!  Do I believe there is such a thing as dying faith? Yes; there is such a thing as dying faith. I suppose all of us are planning to live a long time, but in these days you can never be sure. The stray bullet, the out-of-control driver, the  gang member, who knows? Any of us could be struck down at any moment.

There are few words that can fall so heavily as the words, “There is no hope.”  It would be terrible to hear the doctor say, “There is no hope.  The injuries are too severe.  There is just too much damage.” Or, “The disease has just spread too far.”  It is a final word.  There is no chance of recovery.  There is no hope.

Some people look at life that way, especially as they face problems and trials.   They often tend to throw their hands up and say, “What’s the use?  There is no hope!”  “There is no longer any hope for my job, for my marriage, for my family, for my life!”

The message that comes from God’s Word today is that there is hope. Problems that seem far beyond what we can manage - there is hope! “… abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” Not only is there hope, there is hope that others long to have.  It is a treasure that we have.  The Word of God is our mirror. We stand completely exposed before the word of God. No matter what you say you are, the word of God will show you what you are.

The day is coming when we shall "totally" be with him and be changed into the same image of our risen Savior. All I have to do is continue to hear the word of God, obey the Word of God,  and to increase in the knowledge of the Lord unto all pleasing. Let us go on to meet the Lord together and strive to make sure that the man in the mirror is doing more than just looking, but changing.
