“THE SOLID ROCK”
I don’t have to tell you our country is going through a trying time; and I must confess the present time brings back the nineteen thirties. I pray that this generation will not have to experience what my generation did. I have heard it said, “I am sick of the news,” referring to unemployment figures, bankruptcies, saving account and retirement account disappearing. We are reminded of “Pearl Harbor” as we hear words like Iran, nuclear, Russia, Ben Laden. Yes, it’s a dangerous and shaky world we are a part of; and I have to stop and remind myself of the hymn, “On Christ, the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
David asks this question (Psalm 11:3-4), “If the foundations (truth) be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Yes, the foundations are being shaken and it seems like everything is caving in; but we must remember: “The Lord is in his holy temple … His eyes behold (evaluate) the children of men.” The number one rock, our “Solid Rock” is Jesus. Is it possible we are so focused on the little dot we live in, we forget the Lord has been managing this planet for a long time; and we are as a toddler in the history of the world. Let us remember God is in charge here – He sets the rules. He wants you to realize the power you got when you got Jesus. He wants you to give yourself to a mission far larger than your little kingdom, your little comfort zone. Those chains that have bound you for so long, you don't have to settle for those anymore. Jesus Christ has resurrection power to set you free! If you'll commit yourself to resurrection living, you can confront those monsters from your past; the ones that have haunted you and defined you for way too long. You can face those fears. You can move beyond that bitterness. You can throw yourself into doing some things that will last forever!
Listen to the blessedness of trusting the Lord (Jer. “17: 7-8). “”Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.” Remember, God’s supply to you is not tied to the environment. If you are really trusting on Him, “The Solid Rock,” your roots are down in the stream. Beloved, our job never changes whatever the storm blows away. We are to be careful to follow every command God gives us. We testify with the writer of Hebrews: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure” (Heb. 6: 19).
“Dear Lord, even though our present-day society teaches that there are no "absolutes," remind us that our first president,
George Washington, said, "It is impossible to have a public morality without religious principles." ... Could it be that in the USA we have wrongly re-interpreted the "separation of church and state" to exclude our Judeo-Christian principles in the daily conduct of government, politics, business, schools, on our streets, or in our TV and movie programming? ... Have we become a nation that accepts immorality, corruption and crime as normal, and the aborting of innocent lives as our right? ... Oh Lord, help us to see ourselves as You must see us and to weep, for surely, "Our pain is Yours, and Your pain is ours, for we catch each other's
tears in the cup of the Father's will."
